ABOUT VIDEOS (VSL in DISGUISE)

At WestStorm Studio, I believe a well-done About Video can work as a VSL (video sales letter) in disguise. A video sales letter is a video presentation about what you do that invites the viewer to take a specific action like hiring your business, signing up for your workshop, scheduling a call, downloading a free resource, or joining your newsletter. Whatever your specific action is a Company About Video can work as a VSL without your prospect sniffing any fishy sales manipulations.

You do this by clearly discussing the problem your offer solves, how you do it, and showing your results. When you follow the right VSL framework your video is both useful to your viewers and encourages them to take action on your offer.

Ads

There are countless strategies out there to get more leads & sales for your business but the tried and true method that will always be around is through advertising. At WestStorm Studio, we believe that if you’re going to spend money on adspend you need to have not only a great ad that speaks to your customer’s direct pain points and offers a solution, but must also have some heart and soul from the creator or brand in it. Otherwise they will just look like every other ad and get skipped and forgotten.

Lead Magnet Ad Example 1

Here is an example of a lead magnet YouTube ad I made for the YouTube ads software & coaching company TubeSift.

Lead Magnet Ad Example 2

Webinar Ad shot on a Sailboat

Here is an example of a webinar training YouTube ad I made for TubeSift on set on a sailboat in the tropics.

Software YouTube Ad

Here is a YouTube ad I shot and narrated for the software product Video Ad Vault. I added an entertainment element by making it a race between some automatic blinds and Video Ad Vault's searchable YouTube ads library.

Software Reveal Beta Access Ad

This ad promoted a software beta access reveal webinar that was a successful part of TubeSift's launch strategy. Notice the CEO's casual business attire.

Acted Comedy Ad for TubeSift (starring CEO & me)

This is a legacy acted comedy ad for TubeSift starring the CEO and myself. We renditioned a scene from Always Sunny in Philadelphia Scene but made it about YouTube ads.

Software Comical Ad featuring Skeleton Rick

This is a comical ad I made promoting the software Video Ad Vault that features a Skeleton Head of Rick from the cartoon Rick & Morty. Sometimes humor sells the best.

CLIENT YOUTUBE VIDEOS

Diverging from my experience with ads and marketing videos, I edit weekly videos from YouTubers Trent and Allie. This weekly editing has helped me hone the craft of vlog editing and non-fiction narrative filmmaking. Trent and Allie have over 480,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel where they document their journey in DIY home construction and occasionally dip back to their roots in Vanlife travel episodes.

A Recent Trent & Allie Video I Edited

In this episode of Trent & Allie they don’t let any inconvenience stand in the way of completing construction on their dream house.

MY personal YOUTUBE CHANNEL

I started a YouTube channel in November 2022 half as a joke and half seriously. I wanted an outlet for my creative expression AND for my experiments in entrepreneurial media. In the beginning, I took a satirical approach to my content where I at times played both the camera guy and myself, the narrator Brady Snow. I made videos about making videos, about creative habits, and 5 seasons of a YouTube Shorts comedy series called “Whats My Nitch?”.

I took a hiatus from videos in 2024 to re-examine my personal goals & style with video and have since renewed my efforts to post educational, inspirational, and entertainment videos online. Below are some samples of videos I’ve made to show the breadth of my experimentation and to show how far I’ve come.

Why You’re Better off with Video Skills

In this video I discuss why having some basic video skills sets you up to accomplish more and share your message in life.

Top 5 Video Skills to Make Better Videos

Here are the 5 video skills to focus on to make better videos. 3 are technical and 2 are conceptual. Work on improving these and your videos will improve.

Creating Content Gets you Closer to your Dream Life

In this video from August 2023, I attempt to get my feet under me with my video style while describing how actively sharing your personal message online with video can change your life for the better.

How to Rise Above your Creative Rut

Here are the steps you need to follow to rise above any kind of creative rut. Do these things that helped me get out of my artistic drought and start creating again.

Why You Should Make your Creativity a Priority

In this short video I discuss why you should prioritize your creativity. If you don't take action now you are repressing one of your greatest gifts. Express yourself and create content online about what you are doing and what you are passionate about. Become a content creator for your passions.

How to Tackle your Cosmic To-Do List (Achieve Life Vision)

Your big life goals that you believe are part of your purpose in this life to accomplish and experience are the tasks that I call your cosmic to-do list. Learn my philosophy and hear some personal on accomplising one’s cosmic to-do list. This is the first origins of an evolving framework I am working on plan to release in the near future.

The 3 Must-Have Steps for Establishing your Content Pillars

This video shot on a California Road Trip in summer 2022 but released in February 2023, was my first attempt at “trying to get serious with my YouTube channel and make it educational.”

I discuss how to find your content pillars which are the main topics you talk about in your video content. Though, I filmed it in a barren desert instead of an office, and continued with the camera-guy character satire element, the advice on finding content pillars is sound and taken from my experience managing TubeSift’s business YouTube channel.

Run and Gun Filmmaking Fundamentals

In this video shot in summer 2022, I narrate how I used “Run and Gun” filmmaking techniques to record an About Video for a Wild Horse Photography Workshop.

I keep an entertainment element in it and play my own camera guy who looks just like me but the techniques I describe are valid. I also learned a lesson about how light can change quickly when shooting outside and you may notice it in the video.

My Very First YouTube Video (75% True / 25% Satire)

In my very first YouTube video, I dealt with the awkwardness I felt in wanting to make both a creative outlet for myself AND make an educational YouTube channel. The result was a true non-fictional video about my creative history but delivered as a mockumentary of someone starting a YouTube channel where I play Billy the Camera Guy AND myself, the narrator.

This concept was based on an unpublished entertainment YouTube series I co-wrote with a friend, which later formed the foundation for my satirical shorts series, “Whats my Nitch?”

Whats My Nitch? - The Content Creator Shorts Series

When I decided to start posting videos online my intentions were two-sided. I was a repressed artist trying to become an entrepreneur. The result of this conundrum resulted in a strange comedy satire series designed as short vertical videos that I published on YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and TikTok.

The artist in me wanted to make a satire about the silliness of someone trying to become a content creator while having thousands of interests and a short attention span.

The entrepreneuer in me said I was teaching by example with the series through showing that one should not worry about perfection, create consistently, and always be themselves.

The result was 5 negative numbered seasons of absurdist comedy that many viewers perceived as real non-fiction, but those who knew me saw as entertainment and narrative acting. It was strange because I played myself and the camera man.

Feel free to watch the absurd seasons (playlists) at your own risk.

The Seasons (Playlists)

The seasons count up from number -5 towards number -1 and the episodes are negative numbers counting towards episode zero each season (often with decimal points.)
